Divided We Stand by the Mainstreet Collective
1990 Canadian Stage Company production directed by Damir Andrei
The play was created and performed the year before by the same collective of 2nd generation immigrant performers at the Centaur Theatre and was originally named From the Main to Mainstreet. The name referenced the famous business sector of Montreal’s St-Laurent Blvd, The Main that is still home base to generations of new immigrants to the city. The theme of the play is about the children of immigrants sandwiched between the cultural values of their parents and those of the host culture.
